Lend A Helping Hand Program

The Lend A Helping Hand Program assists the breast cancer client and their family to cope with major life changes.  We provide financial support for  the client to procure such services as: house cleaning, childcare, massage therapy, salon services, transportation and financial assistance with medication, wigs, prostheses, etc.  The program is offered to breast cancer patients who reside in the Town of Islip.  Our clients and their families view the removal of certain daily pressures and issues as a welcome relief to help them  maintain some semblance of normal lifestyle while recovering from surgery and/or undergoing chemotherapy/radiation.

CanSurvive Program

This program is designed to provide support and resources to breast cancer patients who are admitted to Southside Hospital , Bay Shore NY and their families.  A visit by a trained volunteer is offered to the patient either before or after surgery.  They will provide a Carry-On tapestry suitcase filled with a variety of personal items such as an exercise "squeezy" ball, temporary prosthesis, resource information, A Breast Cancer Journey Book, meditation tapes, etc.  The volunteer spends time with the patient to allow an opportunity to articulate their feelings , needs and concerns and to be a resource guide for them.  A follow up phone call is made approximately two weeks after discharge.

Support Groups

Support Group meets every third tuesdays of the month at Northshore LIJ – Southside Hospital. The group will allow the breast cancer client to express their feelings and concerns in a compassionate atmosphere, and give them coping skills for their healing journey.
